Founded in 1987, the Galveston Bay Foundation
’s mission is to preserve, protect and enhance Galveston Bay through advocacy, conservation, education and research. The non-profit’s programs help ensure that Galveston Bay, one of the world’s most productive estuaries, remains productive and beautiful for upcoming generations.
We contribute to the Foundation’s objective of restoring the eco-balance in Galveston's wetlands. Currently, we support the organization’s Oyster Shell Recycling Program, which focuses on restoring the nearly 60 percent of oyster reefs destroyed after Hurricane Ike hit the Texas Gulf Coast in 2008.
With oyster reefs creating a critical marine habitat, the foundation—along with the help of sponsors like ASC—is working on oyster reef restoration activities such as oyster gardening, oyster reef construction and oyster shell recycling.
