Helping our neighbors in need is one of the major tenets of Aramco's volunteer activities. This commitment to service was in full view Friday, July 7, when a record number of volunteers spent time at the Houston Food Bank, the largest food bank in the United States.
Approximately 101 Aramco volunteers – including employees, summer students, and family members – attended the event. Among them, 24 undergraduate students working at Aramco’s offices based in the United States – as part of our summer student program.
At this year’s volunteer event, Aramco welcomed 12 additional guests from Rice University's Jones Business School to help in the fight against hunger, bringing our group total to 113 volunteers – the largest participation to date.
Volunteers spent the day sorting and packaging approximately 16,000 pounds of food at the food bank's warehouse, which converted into 13,020 meals. They also restocked the emergency supply area, helped make meals, and unloaded boxes. Aramco also donated 45,000 meals in support of feeding Houston's community, totaling our efforts to 58,020 meals.
In just a few short years, the annual event has become an important part of Aramco's volunteer culture.
The Houston Food Bank is America's largest food bank per its distribution to a network of 600 hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties. The food bank provides 79 million nutritious meals to food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other agencies, feeding 800,000 people each year.
